Teaching Philosophy

Teachers provide knowledge and opportunities for students to challenge themselves. Educators of all grades are essential but I believe that elementary school teachers are especially important because a child's early years are the foundation for his/her development. As kids progress through their education, they interact with different people and are exposed to new information and environments.
Cantonese was my first language and knew little to no English when I began to attend school. Being in an unknown environment and being surrounded by strangers, I experienced anxiety and confusion. As a child, I was led to believe that my feelings and opinions were not important. I used art as an outlet for my frustration. As I progressed through my education, I was exposed to various forms of art and concepts. I felt people's emotions through their art and I learned about their characters.
My goal is to provide students ways to express themselves through art and learn about not only the world around them, but the people as well. I want to give my students creative freedom and opportunities to find kindred souls as I did. I want to provide a safe space for my students to convey their emotions because their feelings matter.
