Teaching Philosophy

Teachers provide knowledge and opportunities for students to challenge themselves. Educators of all grades are essential but I believe that elementary school teachers are especially important because a child's early years are the foundation for his/her development. As students progress through their education, they interact with different people and are exposed to new information and environments.
Cantonese was my first language and I knew little to no English when I began to attend school. Being surrounded by strangers in a new environment, I experienced anxiety and confusion. As a child, I was led to believe that my feelings and opinions were not important so I used art as an outlet for my frustration. As I progressed through my education, I was exposed to various forms of art and concepts. I felt people's emotions through their art and I learned about their characters.
My goal is to provide students ways to express themselves through art and learn about not only the world around them, but the people as well. I want to give my students creative freedom and opportunities to find kindred souls as I did. I want to provide a safe and respectful space for my students to convey their emotions and opinions.
